TACKLE FOOTBALL

UPDATE 8/12: We are looking for sponsors for our 2011 Hornets Football Program.  This is a separate sponsorship than the normal SOAC sponsors and is dedicated to the Football program.  The Football program does not require any of the players to fund raise.  As a Football sponsor, the name of your company will appear on all game programs.  It will also be put on this page.  You can download the form here - Hornets Sponsor Form.

Combine and practices will be held at the Admin bldg until school starts as they are fixing the upper field at Lakeland HS.

Equipment Pick Up:

VARSITY (7th & 8th grade) will be Wed 8/3 at the admin bldg from 7:00- 9:00 PM.

JUNIOR VARSITY (5th &  6th grade) will be Thurs 8/4 at the admin bldg from 7:00- 9:00 PM.



COMBINE...IMPORTANT INFO

On August 11th and 12th at 5:45, we will be holding a combine to help us assess each player’s skill level so that we will be able to create equal teams in both leagues. 

On August 11th, we will be assessing the 5th and 6th grade players and on August 12th, we will be assessing the 7th and 8th grade players.  Only those age groups should report on the scheduled dates. Once the player has completed the combine, he may leave.  Both Combines will be held at the Admin Building.

This combine is mandatory!  If you are unable to come on the assigned date, you must email football@shruboakac.org with the reason why you cannot attend. You will not be placed on a team until an assessment has been made.  If you miss the Combine you will be assessed at the first practice.

If you fail to show up and do not provide a reason for your absence, you will NOT start the first game regardless of your ability. The reason for this is simple – we are trying to create equal teams and need everyone to attend. If a player decides not to come (w/o a reason), he doesn’t possess the commitment necessary to be a starting player.

This year we will be limiting the number of players on a team. The reason for this is that too many players on a team has made it extremely difficult to get everyone into a game. It is not fair to the players or the coaches.  So this year,
sign-ups will be on a first come - first served basis, regardless of years played in the program. When the number is reached, registration will be closed. A waiting list will be created but if there are no drop-outs after the first week of practice, the list will be deleted.

Teams

Rosters

7th & 8th Grade Teams – 25 players a team – 2 teams

5th & 6th Grade Teams – 28 players a team – 2 teams

Practice

Practice will begin on Thursday August 11th and will be (4) days a week (M, T, Th, F) until school starts. Once school starts, practice will be 3 days a week (days to be determined by coaches) The Combine (see below) will be held on August 11 & 12 (ALL PLAYERS MUST PARTICIPATE)

Team Selections

Combine (speed, agility, strength & tackling) will be held the first week of practice – teams will be selected in a draft based on Combine scores – players will be evaluated by the director, assistant director and the 4 head coaches

Team Practices

The Varsity teams will practice as one unit as will the JV teams. This is being done to insure that all teams have the players use the same techniques and skill sets as well as running the same set of plays and defenses. Scrimmages between the two teams will be held weekly.

Parent Pledge

All parents will be required to sign a parent pledge which will outline the team selection process, playing time, game behavior, complaint process and their required participation in concessions and/or chain gang.  The Parent Pledge and the Dispute Resolution as described in the Parent Pledge are both available via these links. 






FLAG FOOTBALL



This year we will again have two flag leagues - a 1st & 2nd grade Instructional League and a 3rd & 4th grade league

Registration will be on the same day as Tackle Football – 6/4 and 6/11

Cost:

1st & 2nd Grade - $60

3rd & 4th grade - $75

Instructional League (1st & 2nd Grade) – all teams will practice/play on Sunday mornings. The first session will start @ 11am and the second session @ noon. The season will start the Sunday after Labor Day and run through the first week of November.  The first 5 weeks will consist of drills teaching the fundamentals of football. The next 3 will consist of games with refs and the final week will be a Skills competition. Registration Form for 1st & 2nd Grade

Flag League (3rd & 4th Grade) – all teams will play/practice on Saturday mornings. The first game will be at 10am, the second at 11am and the last at noon. The season will start on the first Saturday after Labor Day and run through the first week of November. The first week will consist of drills/scrimmages, followed by 8 regular season games. A Championship Series will be held on the 3rd Saturday in November under the lights at Lakeland HS turf field. Registration Form for 3rd & 4th Grade

ALL FLAG GAMES WILL BE PLAYED ON THE ADMINISTRATION BUILDING FIELD.
